Benjamin Weil is the Artistic Director of Centro Botín, a new building by Renzo Piano which will host the activities of Art and Education of Fundación Botín. As such, he is in charge of articulating the exhibition program of Fundación Botín, as well as oversee its implementation. This includes exhibitions, as well as the Summer Workshop and the formation and production grants given out to young artists every year. He recently curated an exhibition of Wall Drawings by Sol LeWitt and a new installation by Joan Jonas held at Fundación Botín’s current exhibition space. Relevant to this gathering are Benjamin Weil’s prior positions as Artistic Director of Laboral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial, where he oversaw the development of an institutional model predicated by the notion of production and exhibition; as Curator of Media Arts at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, where he was in charge of the museum’s collection of media and new media art, and part of the Matters in Media team, which goal was to establish collection care policies for these works (in close collaboration with Tate Modern and MoMA); as co-founder and Artistic Director of adaweb.com, a digital foundry and web site dedicated to the exploration of the online realm with contemporary artists.
